Kovar returns as Swindon loan ends early

- By RICHARD FAY

UNITED UN have recalled goalkeeper Matej Ma Kovar from his loan-spell with Swindon Sw Town.

The 20-year-old agreed a one-year loan deal in the summer but has seen his time at the League One side cut short.

Kovar, who was experiencing his fir first loan-spell away from the Reds, st started brightly for Swindon but kept just one clean sheet in his 20 appearances for the club.

The keeper will now return to Carrington while the Reds consider sending him out on another Football League loan for the remainder of the season.

Swindon are looking to replace Kovar before the weekend with local reports suggesting Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers is expected to sign as a replacement.

Kovar has been a familiar face in first-team training sessions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but is yet to make his senior debut for United despite shining at youth level, especially for the Under-23s during their promotion last season.

Earlier in the week former Reds youngster Will Keane explained loanees might be struggling away from the club because of the huge step-up in physicality and intensity. “It’s tough,” he told M.E.N. Sport. “I think the style of play, with these lads coming up through the ranks and then getting in the reserve team, they’re used to that and it’s a very technical game.

“And it’s not men’s football, so when you have that first exposure, it probably is a bit of a wake-up call to a lot of players, really.

“It’s a different game.”
