Torres back in training after catching Covid For the second time

- By JOE BRAY

FERRAN Torres says he is happy to be back in training after recovering from Covid-19, along with Ederson and Tommy Doyle.

The trio tested positive ahead of City’s postponed Premier League trip to Everton over Christmas, causing the game to be called off.

Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus had tested positive in the previous round of testing. However, they both returned to the matchday squad in the Carabao Cup win over United last week and played against Birmingham in the FA Cup yesterday.

Now Torres, Ederson and Doyle have all tested negative and rejoined first-team training, with the keeper on the Blues bench at the Etihad for the tie against the Championship side.

Torres posted on Twitter: “Happy to be back after my period of isolation. It was my second positive test for Covid in nine months, and I feel fortunate that I have overcome it.

“I send my love to people who are fighting against the virus every day, and a big hug to those who have sadly lost loved ones.”

Meanwhile, Ederson posted a picture from the City dressing room, and reportedly told City Xtra he was ‘more anxious than ever’ as he looks to regain match fitness. He is quoted as saying: “I’m feeling well, I didn’t have any symptoms (of the virus).”

Doyle posted an image of himself to Instagram with the caption: “Feels good to be back.”

City remain without Scott Carson, Cole Palmer and Eric Garcia, who are all still isolating, while one member of the Elite Development Squad has also tested positive.

And after welcoming back Walker and Jesus at Old Trafford, boss Pep Guardiola said the club will manage returning players’ returns as the long-term effects of the virus are unknown.

He said: “Kyle and Gabriel were back on the bench from Old Trafford.

“If Ederson and Ferran and Tommy are negative maybe they can train.

“It is a mystery of how the people who get positive how they will react afterwards, we don’t know, every case is different.

“Some are exhausted, some feel better, we have to be careful and see how they react after the first training session.

“It’s still a mystery how these players will react, but it’s incredible news, they’re back and they’re healthy.”
