Kew did us all proud - Latics boss happy

HARRY Kewell says he wasn’t disappointed with his side’s performance following their 4-1 defeat to Bournemouth in the

FA Cup third round on Saturday.

Second-half goals from Josh King and Rodrigo Riquelme saw the hosts progress after David Brooks and Dylan Bahamboula had the game level at the break.

“I’m not disappointed in the way that the players performed,” said Kewell.

“In the end, we had to change it because we fell a goal behind and we felt strong enough to maybe create something.”

Oldham started well and were almost in front within the opening 10 minutes in Dorset when Carl Piergianni headed down towards goal and forced a good save out of goalkeeper Will Dennis.

They continued to look comfortable but eventually went behind on 43 minutes, as Brooks’ shot deflected off Harry Clarke and wrongfooted Ian Lawlor.

However, they equalised just moments later when Davis KeillorDunn was brought down in the area by Dennis and Bahamboula converted from the penalty spot.

But their hard work before the break was undone just three minutes into the second half, as Riquelme connected with Jack Stacey’s cross and fired in from close range.

The hosts added two more through King, firstly on 74 minutes after a deflected header and then a tap in late on.

“We created a lot in the first half and I thought we had enough to sneak one or two more goals but we didn’t capitalise on that,” added the Latics boss.

“But I can’t criticise my players.”
