Cat found rolled in rug in skip loses fight for life

-

A CAT that was found rolled up in a carpet and dumped in a skip has died.

The animal, called Aslan, was so badly neglected vets had to put him to sleep.

Aslan was discovered by a passer-by on Eton Hill Road, in Radcliffe, on January 5. He had a serious flea infestation, mouth and feet ulcers as well as kidney issues.

Tests also found he was severely anaemic.

Animal organisation Kitty Rescue Bury say they did ‘everything they could’ to save him but his condition was too severe.

He died the day after his rescue, cuddling into a volunteer’s arms on the way to the vets. His owners have not come forward.

A spokesman for the animal organisation said: “We are so thankful to the kind lady who found him and helped him.

“At least he didn’t die alone, cold in a wet carpet. He was warm, fed and knew love and comfort in his last day.

“Rest in peace beautiful Aslan. You touched our hearts.”

When taken to a foster home, volunteers say Aslan, who was not microchipped, went straight to the first bed he could see.

He was given lots of food and cuddles but mainly slept.

However, the foster carer noticed Aslan was unsteady on his feet and was drinking an excessive amount of water.

He was taken to an out-ofhours vets where it was revealed Aslan was severely dehydrated.

Vets had planned to put Aslan on a drip and start him on a course of antibiotics.

But his test results were so alarming they believed the kindest thing would be to put him to sleep. Kitty Rescue Bury continued: “We are absolutely heartbroken, we are gutted we couldn’t do more.”
