That’s what I call a GREEN building!

BOLD PLANS REVEALED FOR TOWER BLOCK IN CITY CENTRE

- By STEVE ROBSON newsdesk@men-news.co.uk @MENnewsdesk

THESE are the bold plans for a new block of flats in the city centre with green cladding and a huge 270m canvas on the front.

The £37million scheme is being brought forward in a collaboration between Capital & Centric and Kamani Property Group.

The site on Swan Street, opposite Mackie Mayor food hall, already has approval for temporary use as a new food and drinks venue.

Now the developers say they want to build a nine-storey apartment block as part of the regeneration of New Cross.

Authorities have been trying to bring the historic neighbourhood, wedged between Ancoats and NOMA and bounded by Oldham Road and Rochdale Road, back to life for several years.

Currently much of the land is occupied by surface car parks.

A number of other New Cross developments are in the pipeline, including 31-storey skyscraper Swan House which was approved in 2019.

The scheme submitted by Capital & Centric and Kamani promises to transform the derelict site on Swan Street into 118 new homes, with a mix of one, two and three-bed apartments.

There will be ground floor workspaces and spaces for local businesses to locate, such as a cafe-bar or deli, the developers say.

Residents will also enjoy use of a shared roof terrace and basement pool with a jacuzzi.

A CGI of the tower block reveals it will have a ‘striking’ design featuring a 270m art canvas on the front of the building.

The developers say it will be one of the largest in the city and will showcase local and international artists.

The planning application submission follows a public consultation which was held during December.

A decision on the planning application is expected from Manchester City Council in the spring.
