Empty ground is a bonus for us - Ole

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer believes it is an advantage for United to be playing at Anfield without any supporters present.

Liverpool were able to welcome back 2,000 followers for their games in December as Merseyside was placed in Tier 2, but now all games are back behind closed doors.

United have not won any of their last five games at Liverpool, drawing two, losing three and scoring just once.

However, the Reds have not lost a domestic away fixture since Liverpool beat them in January last year and Solskjaer feels they could benefit from the absence of Liverpudlians tomorrow.

“I think football and the results in general have shown how important the fans are,” Solskjaer said. “We’ve not lost away from home for a year.

“I think that’s a lot down to the fans not being there. It’s just a pitch of green grass and white lines, it’s not home or away advantage.

“So compared to the times when you go to Anfield with a crowd there, it’s a bit of an advantage this time.

“To be at home with your fans is the best feeling for any player. It’s not just a cliche that you need your supporters.

“You’re always excited when you’re going to play against teams of that quality and calibre and, for us, form goes out the window, it doesn’t matter if it’s first or last game, when you go to Anfield it’s a big game for the club, for the players, for the fans.

“It was always the biggest game for teams when they played Manchester United when I played and that’s always going to be the case when you play against successful teams.”
