‘The difficulty we have in A&E is we quickly fill up’
ANOTHER medic based in A&E at a hospital in Greater Manchester said a higher number of coronavirus patients are being treated now compared to the first wave.
On Friday night, she saw around eight or nine Covid patients out of 25.
“It feels like people are coming in more between day five and eight of the illness, that’s when they tend to be the sickest,” she said.
“(During the first wave) people did really stay away with coronavirus. “We quickly fill up.
“NWAS can’t stop bringing patients to hospital.
“The issue is more when we are taking patients out of A&E. We can’t put a (coronavirus patient) in with a negative patient.”
She said the support of colleagues helps get them through each day.
“You work with everyone in the same boat, there is that sense of camaraderie”, she said.
