Martial remains a doubt after knock at Burnley

- By SAMUEL LUCKHURST @samuelluckhurst

UNITED were due to assess their injured players yesterday before deciding on whether to include them in the squad for today’s trip to Liverpool.

Anthony Martial and Nemanja Matic appeared to suffer muscular injuries towards the end of the Tuesday night victory over Burnley and Martial was substituted late on at Turf Moor. Brandon Williams, who has not started a Premier League match since March, and Phil Jones, excluded from the domestic squad, are unavailable through injury but United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted there are doubts over a number of unnamed players.

United are three points clear of second-placed Liverpool going into the fixture, almost a year to the day since their last domestic away defeat. “Well, I think we have as many injuries as them,” Solskjaer said of Liverpool’s injury woe.

“It’s just how football is, you get injuries and that’s part and parcel of the game and I’ll give everyone tomorrow (Saturday) to prove their fitness to get a chance to go to that game.

“There are a couple of knocks that we got at Burnley that I’m not sure about. I’m going to give everyone another day. Anthony is not out of it.

“The only ones certainly out are Brandon and Phil Jones, they’re the two that definitely cannot make the game, a couple of others maybe doubts, but we’re hoping, fingers crossed.

“Form goes out of the window when you play your rivals but our form gives us confidence, we’re confident going into the game.”
