COLLIDE (12) HHHHH

NICHOLAS HOULT stars in this thriller as Casey, an American living in Germany, where he works for a local drug dealer.

He’s inspired to change his ways and go straight after meeting fellow American Juliette (Felicity Jones) and the relationship blossoms – until she falls ill.

When it’s discovered she needs a kidney transplant, which she can’t obtain on the German health service as a non-resident, Casey plans to raise the cash by robbing a drug lord. Collide sat on a shelf for two years and struggled at the box office, and in truth there’s little here we haven’t seen before.

However, it’s worth a look for the great cast, which also includes Ben Kingsley and Anthony Hopkins.

WONDER WOMAN 1984 (12A) HHHHH

WRITER-DIRECTOR Patti Jenkins’ turbo-charged sequel is a muscular and occasionally thrilling cautionary tale set during the Cold War when tensions remain high between the United States and the Soviet Union.

Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) is working in the archaeology department at Washington’s Smithsonian museum. She comes across a wish-granting artefact and wishes she could bring her lost love Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) back to life.

Her klutzy co-worker Barbara (Kristen Wiig) hits on another shortcut to happiness, wishing she could be as wonderful as Diana. However Pedro Pascal’s Trump-like businessman wants to use the artefact to take over the world.

The plot is convoluted but there are some great action scenes, including an ancient pentathlon and a heist on an 80s shopping centre.
