Student nurse had Covid-19 twice

A student nurse fell ill with coronavirus twice in four months while working on the NHS frontline and studying for her degree.
Samantha Curry, 21, became ill as she completed the final year of her studies while working in a busy accident and emergency department in Manchester.
She did not suffer from severe symptoms in October 2020, however, and was able to return to work after isolating, when she first contracted Covid19.
But when she tested positive for a second time in
February 2021, she felt much worse and struggled to get out of bed. She said: “I tested positive for the second time at the start of February after I started a new placement in North Manchester’s A&E department.
“I was convinced I just had the worst cold I had ever experienced. “I had extremely blocked sinuses for days, a runny nose, chills and hot sweats. Continuous headaches and a cough.” Samantha, from Southport, is taking part in a study looking at the effects of having coronavirus twice.
“A few weeks after my isolation this time around, I was contacted by Public Health England to take part in a reinfection added.
“I really wanted to take part because not many people get coronavirus twice.”
As part of the study, she has a PCR test, gum swab and athome blood tests. After a month, she has to send off further samples.
She said she would “encourage anyone who tests positive to donate plasma, complete surveys and for anyone that is reinfected, to take part in a study.” study”, she
