A YOUNG mum at the centre of a murder investigation was found dead in bed at a man’s house after they spent the evening together, a coroner has heard.

Kimberley McAssey, 29, was found unresponsive on February 21 at a property in Sherbourne Court, Prestwich.

Kimberley, of Cuckoo Lane, close to Heaton Park, was born in Salford and worked at a chip shop, heard Rochdale Coroners Court as an inquest was opened into her death.

She had spent the night with a man at his home before being found dead in bed.

The man ‘identified the body to police officers’ before being arrested and bailed for murder, said a police coroner’s officer during the public hearing. Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 30-yearold man was arrested and questioned in custody.

A medical cause of death has not yet been found – a post mortem examination is currently being carried out by the Home Office.

Police coroner’s officer Cathy Dickson said: “Kimberley had spent the previous evening with a male at his property in Sherbourne Court.

“The following day, she was found deceased in the bed.

“The male had identified a body to officers, but has been arrested and bailed for murder.

“Police still have an ongoing investigation.”

In the wake of the tragedy, emotional tributes poured in for Kimberley – a much-loved mum to a little girl.

Kimberley’s family shared their devastation, calling her ‘the life and soul of the party.’ In a statement through Greater Manchester Police, the family said: “Kimberley was a loving mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, auntie, niece, friend and colleague.

“She was the life and soul of the party and always got up dancing.

She loved going out for walks and jogging with friends.”

Close friends added that ‘Kimberley was loved by many people in Prestwich’ and was a keen Manchester City fan.

Her friend Stacey said: “Kimberley was such an amazing girl!

“We met in the local pub in Prestwich called The Red Lion with her family and she was just so happy, cheerful and friendly.

“We just got on so well.

“She was so loved by many, many people in Prestwich.”

A fundraiser set up to support Ms McAssey’s family has now raised more than £10,000.

Assistant coroner Lisa Judd adjourned the proceedings to be reviewed on June 7, followed by a full inquest on September 7, 2021. ● Contact police on 0161 856 8948 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
