Red Devils set for first Catalans visit

- By TOM BRAMWELL

SALFORD will be the first team to make the trip over to the south of France in the 2021 Betfred Super League season when they take on Catalans on April 17.

Teams will return to their own stadiums from round three and after facing St Helens and Hull FC at neutral venues – Headingley and Langtree Park respectively – in the first two weeks of the season, the Red Devils will fly out to face the Dragons at Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Richard Marshall’s side will return to the AJ Bell Stadium on Friday, April 23, when they host Leigh Centurions in a 6pm kickoff. Like the Catalans match, that tie is not scheduled to be broadcast on Sky Sports, but season ticket holders will be able to watch on the Our League app.

Salford will also be at home a week later for the visit of Castleford Tigers, with that match kicking off at 7.45pm and set to be televised.

Kick-off times and venues have only been confirmed for the first five rounds of the season to date, but the return to home grounds will be a welcome move for clubs hoping to welcome fans back in mid-May, in line with the latest government guidelines.

Super League’s chief commercial officer Rhodri Jones said: “We are delighted to be able to confirm the next three rounds of fixtures and thank our clubs and broadcaster partner, Sky Sports for working with us to achieve this.

“Clubs returning to their home grounds marks a significant step on the road back to normality and the scheduled return of partial crowds in May.”
