Curle: I have learnt plenty about Latics from defeat

- By DAVE CROWTHER-GREEN

OLDHAM head coach Keith Curle has called for his side to be more resilient following their 4-2 defeat to Cambridge United.

Three goals in 22 minutes from Paul Mullin and Jack Iredale saw the visitors overturn Davis Keillor-Dunn’s early double at Boundary Park before Luke Hannant added a fourth.

“First 20 minutes, (it was) a very enjoyable watch but when you lose you’ve got to learn - I’ve learnt something about the players,” said Curle.

“We caused them a lot of problems. Played with fluency, an attacking threat.

“Out of possession we need to be better, some individual errors but as a collective, we need to have a reset button when things aren’t quite going our way, we can’t fold.”

Latics were in front inside three minutes when Keillor-Dunn latched on to Andrea Badan’s ball and lifted his shot past goalkeeper Callum Burton.

The winger then grabbed a second, converting from closerange following Nicky Adams’ cross.

The visitors pulled one back from the spot on 26 minutes following Raphael Diarra’s foul on Greg Taylor and Mullin converted.

And they turned things around thanks to Iredale’s brace late into the half, firstly through a deflected leveller on 36 minutes and then a cool finish into the bottom corner in added time.

Keillor-Dunn had the chance to bring the game level and seal his hat-trick from the spot on 69 minutes but saw his effort saved by Burton. And the visitors sealed the win as Hannant added a fourth minutes later, curling straight in from a corner.

“We got the penalty, goals change games and if that goes in it can change it again,” Curle added. “But that’s where we need that hunger in the changing room whereby it’s a game of football, we’re 3-2 down, got an opportunity and you’ve got to score.”
