1969

March 22: Everton midfielder Howard Kendall limps off the pitch in the 61st minute of the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Hillsborough, Sheffield.

More disappointment was to follow for Kendall as City won the match on a muddy surface 1-0.

The scorer was defender Tommy Booth.

The Blues went on to win the FA Cup at Wembley by beating Leicester City 1-0 thanks to a first half goal from Neil Young.

The victory marked City’s fourth FA Cup triumph.

1962

March 24: Serbian actress Nadja Regin is pictured outside the BBC studios in Dickenson Road, Rusholme, with a customary umbrella to shelter from the Manchester rain.

Regin appeared in a variety of British TV shows including Danger Man, Maigret, Crane, The Saint, Comedy Playhouse and the Benny Hill Show.

She played Kerim Bay’s mistress in the 1963 James Bond film From Russia with Love as well as the dancer Bonita in follow-up movie Goldfinger, released the following year.

1941

March 13: Children in Manchester warm themselves by a fire outside a wrecked house during World War II. An older girl carefully watches the youngsters as they gather round the flames.

The heaviest bombing raids on the city occurred on the nights of December 22 and 23, 1940, when 684 people were killed and more than 2,000 were injured.
