Reds target Pau is talking himself into summer deal
PAU Torres has offered a hint of where his future lies amid interest from United.
M.E.N. Sport understands the Villarreal defender would be interested in a move to the Reds this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to add a new centre-back and Torres’s ability as a left-footer makes the 24-year-old an ideal candidate to partner Harry Maguire.
Torres has revealed he is learning English – offering a hint he may view his future in the Premier League.
In an interview with a Spanish newspaper last April, during the first coronavirus lockdown, Torres was asked how he was keeping himself busy without football.
The Spain international revealed that, after making sure he was keeping fit, he was learning languages, having already attempted to study English.
“In the morning I do the training regime and then I do the food following the guidelines established by the club,” he told El Periodico Mediterraneo.
“In the afternoon, after lunch, I study a few languages because I was learning English and now is a good time to resume it.”
Torres is contracted to Villarreal until 2024, with a release clause of around 60m euro, having penned a contract extension two years ago.
Yet the Spanish side could well consider a player-plus-cash offer for the defender due to the current financial climate.
There is also interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, although, having missed out on a call-up to the Spain squad due to injury, the defender is understood to be fully focused on the end-of-season run-in in order to secure his place at the summer’s European Championships.
