Reds boss doesn’t expect a Sergio of interest

- By TYRONE MARSHALL

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t expect Sergio Aguero to be interested in joining United this summer and he took a swipe at Carlos Tevez for making the move in the opposite direction.

Aguero will be a free agent after a decade of service at Manchester City and United are in the market for a striker, but Solskjaer expects Aguero’s loyalty will rule out a move across the divide.

Solskjaer said he could never have considered swapping United for City once he’d made the grade at Old Trafford, but that didn’t stop Tevez from departing for the Etihad in July 2009.

While City didn’t sign Tevez directly from United, with the Argentine spending two years on loan at Old Trafford, the forward was happy to fan the flames once he’d made the move. City’s ‘Welcome to Manchester’ poster advertising his arrival caused controversy and Tevez riled United players in subsequent derby day clashes.

City confirmed Aguero will leave the Etihad this summer in midweek and with speculation now rife over his future, Solskjaer was asked if he could envisage any player swapping blue for red, or vice versa, in Manchester again, as Tevez did 12 years ago.

While Solskjaer didn’t mention Tevez directly, the implication was clear as he explained why he could never have made a similar move and why he doesn’t expect Aguero to be interested in doing so either.

“When I played for Man United, if a rival club tried to sign me, and I had gone... well where’s the loyalty?,” he said. “Loyalty is one of the values I really, really put highly.

“I wouldn’t expect any player who has played for a club for 10 years to want to go to their local rivals. It’s not for me. I know we’re professionals, but when you play for Man United you don’t go to Man City.

“We’ve had examples of that and I didn’t really agree with it. I won’t name names but you all know who I mean. Enough said.”
