Witness plea after pedestrian dies in car horror
MAN, 46, STRUCK IN EARLY-MORNING CRASH
A MAN has died after he was hit by a car.
The 46-year-old was struck by a blue Seat Ibiza at the junction of Ashton New Road and Clayton Street in Clayton shortly before 7am yesterday.
Police and paramedics raced to the scene following a call at 6.50am.
The man was taken to hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead, Greater Manchester Police said.
The driver of the Seat Ibiza remained at the scene to assist officers.
No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing, the force added.
Officers were trying to find the man’s next of kin. They are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant Matthew Waggett, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are very much with family and loved ones of the man who has sadly died this morning. Enquiries are currently ongoing to locate his next of kin. “We appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of this collision to come forward and speak with police.
“We’re particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or is in possession of dashcam footage from the area at the time.”
The road remained closed between the junctions for North Road and Canberra Street by 1.30pm. Diversions were put place. Pictures from the scene showed a badly-damaged Seat Ibiza in the centre of the road, close to The Grove Inn pub.
