Wanderers facing the ‘unknown’

- By JOHN McDOUGALL @MENSports

IAN Evatt admits he does not know what kind of game his Bolton Wanderers side will come up against when they take on Newport County at Rodney Parade today.

Wanderers head to South Wales aiming to go 15 games unbeaten and solidify their place in the League Two automatic promotion spots.

Michael Flynn’s side head into the fixture sitting seventh in the table and seven points behind Bolton, having lost their last three games in a row.

The last two home games Newport have had were played at Cardiff City’s ground in order to give the pitch at Rodney Parade a chance to recover.

And Evatt admits he does not know what kind of pitch they will encounter at Rodney Parade or what the Exiles might line up as, but admits the conditions will be the same for both teams and they must adapt to them and find a way to collect three points.

He said: “I don’t know, I genuinely don’t know because we go to Forest Green and they change formation to stop us. They only water half of the pitch.

“I have no idea what type of pitch we’re going to be playing on on Monday, but we have to go there and find a way and that’s what good teams have to do, is find a way. The opposition aren’t going to make it easy for us, they’re entitled to play whatever way they see fit to get results and if that means playing for a draw from minute one, then credit to us for the team that we’ve become. I have no idea what to expect. I saw a picture on their social media this week where it looked like there was grass on it, which is a start. We’ll go there and see what we come up against, but whatever conditions it’s the same for both teams and we have to find a way to win.”
