ANGEL HAS FALLEN
SECRET Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler) is invited to replace the retiring Secret Service Director David Gentry (Lance Reddick).
Before he can give a definitive answer, a meticulously orchestrated drone attack during US President Allan Trumbull’s (Morgan Freeman) fishing trip results in the slaughter of 18 Secret Service agents.
Trumbull languishes in a coma and, when Mike regains consciousness, he is handcuffed to his hospital bed, accused of the attempted murder of the most powerful man in America.
Angel Has Fallen is a heavy-handed sequel, driven by Butler’s muscular performance.
However, it’s Nick Nolte who steals the film, providing intentional comic relief and pathos as a new addition to the Banning family tree.
■ Sky Cinema Premiere DEATH OF ME
MAGGIE Q and Luke Hemsworth star as Christine and Neil, a couple who are taking a holiday on an island off the coast of Thailand.
They wake up after an evening of drinking with no memory of the night before – all they know is that their passports have gone.
So far, so The Hangover, but Death of Me is a horror, and one of the only clues that the couple have to go on is a video which seemingly shows Neil murdering Christine. Can they work out what really happened before a typhoon hits the island?
The film doesn’t always make the most of its intriguing premise, but there are a few decent scares along the way and Q’s performance keeps it grounded, no matter how silly the plot may get.
