Suspect, 58, in custody after 50-year-old dies
NEIGHBOURS have spoken of their shock after a man was stabbed to death.
Police launched a murder investigation after a 50-year-old man was killed on Davyhulme Road in Stretford on Friday night.
The victim was taken to hospital with a knife wound to his chest following an ‘altercation’ at a house.
He was declared dead a short time later.
A man, aged 58, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.
Detectives say the stabbing which happened at around 9.40pm - is being treated as an ‘isolated incident’ and they are ‘not looking for anyone else at this time.’
Yesterday, a police officer stood guard outside a house on Davyhulme Road.
Forensic officers were seen going in and out of the semi-detached property.
Several floral tributes had been placed in the front garden of the house.
A local shopkeeper in the area told the M.E.N that he knew the family who lived in the house that police were focusing their investigations on.
“They are very, very good people”, he said.
Another local resident said they were shocked to see police arrive at the scene.
“I saw when the police came and knew it was something serious, because there was quite a big police presence,” they said. “Forensics came earlier on and were in and out the house.” Another neighbour said they heard police cars and ambulances arrive on the street at around 10pm. “We saw someone get carted away in an ambulance and they were doing CPR”, they added.
Det Chief Insp Stuart Wilkinson, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This is a horrific incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.
“Our thoughts remain with his family who are understandably devastated, and our specialist officers are doing everything they can to provide support.
“I would like to reassure the public that we have made an arrest, and are not looking for anyone else at this time.
“This is being treated as an isolated incident and there will be an increased police presence in the area. Although we have a man in custody, our investigation remains very much ongoing as we piece together the exact circumstances of what happened.
