Solskjaer: De Gea man of match says it all

- By TYRONE MARSHALL

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer said it summed up United’s performance at Leicester that David de Gea was their star man, despite them conceding four times.

The Reds turned in another disappointing showing at the King Power Stadium, failing to win for the third Premier League game in succession after dropping points to Aston Villa and Everton at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer’s side have now won just five of their 11 games in all competitions this season - despite being handed a fairly routine start and De Gea has been one of their best performers even though they’ve kept just one clean sheet.

The Spaniard made a brilliant save to deny Youri Tielemans at 1-1 and in total the Foxes managed 11 shots on target against United.

Solskjaer admitted his side are in poor form, but praised the performance of De Gea despite the disappointing result.

“It’s a turnaround [we need] because, in isolation in one game, it can happen but then we’ve lost too many points in the last few league games,” he said. “Away from home we’ve been very solid, not conceded too many chances or conceded too many goals but the goals we conceded against Leicester were disappointing. “The timing of them, and of course the way they were conceded, we weren’t good enough second ball, 50-50s, the things that make you earn a right to win a game of football.

“We spoke about that before the game, this is a game you have to win loads of chances and, unfortunately, we couldn’t get the 50-50s turning our way. It says everything our best player was David but we still conceded four goals.”

Solskjaer accepted United didn’t warrant anything out of the game, despite Mason Greenwood’s stunning goal putting them ahead. Marcus Rashford made it 2-2 with eight minutes remaining but United went behind again with seconds of kick-off, which infuriated their manager.

“We didn’t deserve points,” said Solskjaer. “We started well, Mason shows his qualities and for a little while you think we can get the second, then we gift them the first goal.

“The focus in key moments, two set-piece goals, one goal 10 secs after we’ve equalised, that shouldn’t happen, and the first goal we gift them that one. All of the goals were disappointing.”
