Silva is very happy with new freedom
BERNARDO Silva has been lauded throughout the early stages of the season for his role as a freeroaming midfielder – and the Portugal international has spoken out about the role he ‘loves’.
Bernardo received praise for a standout performance against Chelsea that saw him make a number of key interceptions defensively, acting like a third central defender in stages before ferociously pressing from the front.
He was also showered with plaudits after another stunning display in the thrilling 2-2 draw with Liverpool.
It’s something of a rebirth for the former Monaco man, who found himself on the fringes of the squad towards the end of last season.
He was even linked with an exit in the summer, but he has since come back into Pep Guardiola’s plans and hasn’t looked back.
City and Guardiola have been reaping the rewards for his tremendous form, which in turn landed him City’s Player of the Month award for September.
“I’m playing in the midfield as I have played many times in the past, it’s the position I love to play in,” he told the City official YouTube channel after accepting his award.
“I feel free to play there, to attack, defend, I have to respect my position but I feel quite free to do my job and help the team as much as I can.”
Bernardo also revealed City boss Guardiola has been singing his praises behind the scenes, too.
He added: “It’s nice because you feel like you’re doing a good job when the manager talks about you that way, it just feels like you’re doing well, so I’m very happy.”
