Who could be next boss at Old Trafford?

Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Marcelo and Karim Benzema worked under the Frenchman in Spain, with each of those combining to form a functional system at the Bernabeu.

Zidane has a wealth of trophies under his belt, having won the Champions League three times as well as the Copa del Rey twice, the Super Cup twice, the Club World Cup twice and the Spanish Super Cup twice.

Given the talent at United at the moment - with players such as Pogba, Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes vying for spots Zidane could be well suited to the position.

Also, unlike Conte, Zidane does not seem to favour a specific shape, having used a wide variety at Madrid including 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 3-5-2 and 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield.

Luis Enrique

More of a wildcard option for the club to explore would be Luis Enrique, who is currently in charge of the Spanish national team.

He would potentially be difficult to prize away from his role given the World Cup next summer, but the former Barcelona player has the pedigree to coach a top club such as United, and his managerial record is outstanding.

He is still Barcelona’s most successful coach since Pep Guardiola’s reign ended, having won a long list of major trophies during his threeyear spell in charge.

In fact, Enrique won more silverware while at the Camp Nou than all of the other post-Guardiola managers have combined.

Spain finished as runners-up in the most recent Nations League finals, as well as reaching the semifinals of Euro 2020 only to lose on penalties against the eventual winners, Italy. Enrique has constructed a luxury attack consisting of Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez in the past, and he represents a governing and dominant brand of football.
