Woman cut from car that flipped over in pile-up

A WOMAN was cut free from an overturned car following a fourvehicl­e collision.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A663 Broadway in Chadderton, Oldham, at around 5.45pm to reports of a multi-vehicle crash.

Fire crews from Hollins and Chadderton stations attended alongside the technical rescue unit from Leigh to free the woman using specialist equipment.

She was then taken to hospital. The nature of her injuries was unknown.

Pictures from the scene showed the upturned car with a number of emergency crews working on the vehicle.

The road was closed heading southbound at the Costco entrance, with the collision taking place between Gorse Street and Long Lane, and a number of bus services were diverted. The road reopened at around 7.30pm.

A spokespers­on for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 5.49pm (yesterday) police were called to a report of a multi vehicle rtc on Broadway, Chadderton.

“Emergency services attended and remain at the scene. The road is currently closed.”

A spokespers­on for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 5.55pm on Tuesday 26 October fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Broadway, Chadderton.

“Two fire engines from Hollins and Chadderton fire stations, along with the technical rescue unit from Leigh, quickly attended the incident. The collision involved four vehicles.

“Firefighte­rs used specialist equipment to extricate a woman from one of the vehicles. She was then taken to hospital by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS). GMFRS crews remain at the scene.”

The North West Ambulance Service was approached for comment.
