Manager staying focussed on Euro match, not Blues
OLE Gunnar Solskjaer was sweating on a couple of fitness concerns after United’s final training session before flying to Italy for the Champions League tie with Atalanta.
Solskjaer had a fully fit squad to pick from in the win at Tottenham on Saturday and he will also have Paul Pogba available this evening, with the midfielder’s three-game ban only for domestic games.
But a couple of unnamed Reds players picked up knocks in the training session at Carrington yesterday morning. It has now been confirmed that Victor Lindelof will miss the game.
“We are looking alright, this training session this morning a couple of little twinges but I don’t think there will be anything major,” said Solskjaer.
United are in pole position in their group after two late home wins against Villarreal and Atalanta and this trip to Bergamo comes in the middle of a vital and potentially defining week, with City lying in wait on Saturday.
Solskjaer eased the pressure on himself with the 3-0 win at Spurs, but won’t be taken Atalanta lightly ahead of the derby this weekend.
“I think you just have to look at the next game, get a result in that one, we’re in a decent position but you need a result away from home to go through so all eyes and all focus is on this one,” he said.
“Then you look forward to the next one after that, we haven’t been thinking about that at all, this is going to be a difficult game.
“We saw last time how close they were to getting a 3-1 goal when David made a double save. “Everyone is focused, we’ve worked on recovery since Saturday night, the turnaround is quick and let’s see who we can choose from.”
