One killed and three injured in horror crash
A MAN died and three people were rushed to hospital after a serious early-morning collision.
Drivers faced delays after police closed Bury New Road in Whitefield between Bury Old Road and junction 17 of the M60.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after being called out to a threevehicle crash at around 6.10am.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a man was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of emergency services.
Firefighters also cut three casualties from one vehicle before handing them over to paramedics, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.
They have since been taken to hospital by ambulance.
A GMP spokesperson said: “Officers were called at about 6.10am (yesterday) to reports of a road traffic collision between three vehicles on Bury New Road, Whitefield.
“Emergency services attended but sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“There are road closures in place and we will provide further updates as we have them.”
Officers remain in the area as enquiries continue.
A spokesperson for GMFRS added: “At 6.14am on November 4 2021, two fire engines and a Technical Response Unit attended a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on Bury New Road, Whitefield.
“Firefighters acted quickly to extract three casualties from one vehicle and provided medical assistance before the casualties were transferred to hospital
Emergency services attended but sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene GMP spokesperson
by North West Ambulance Service. “Crews were in attendance for approximately one hour.” Diversions were put in place, with traffic leaving the M60 at junction 17
being diverted through Prestwich, while traffic heading from Whitefield towards Manchester is being directed down Bury Old Road.
Bus services were also affected, with diversions and delays of over 30 minutes reported.
