Here’s how you could contribute to the future of medicine

SYNEXUS IS RUNNING A SERIES OF CLINICAL TRIALS FOR RESPIRATORY VIRUSES AND IS CALLING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO TAKE PART

-

You can contribute to the future of medicine through a series of clinical trials being run by Synexus.

The clinical trial organisation is looking for healthy volunteers to help advance research into a vaccine to protect against Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).

Since COVID-19 appears to be here to stay, it is more important than ever to protect yourself from other respiratory viruses.

WHAT IS RSV?

RSV is a common virus that leads to cold-like symptoms, causing serious infections of the lungs and airways, such as pneumonia and bronchiolitis.

It spreads through the air, through coughs and sneezes, and through contact it can be passed on easily as we play and interact with our loved ones

It is estimated that more than 30,000 babies and children under five are hospitalised every year in the U.K. because of RSV, and 6% of these will require admission to intensive care.

Among adults, RSV-associated tract diseases cause around 360,000 hospitalisations and 24,000 deaths of those aged 60 and over, according to Synexus.

TESTIMONIALS

If you become a volunteer, you will be joining the growing community of more than 14,000 Synexus volunteers currently participating in clinical trials.

Here are some responses from those who have taken part:

One volunteer named Mrs ES v H, who participated in a Synexus study so she could find out more about her health condition and learn how to take better control, said: “My experience with Synexus was very positive. The staff was always friendly and totally professional.

“The best part about taking part in the study is that my sugar levels are stable.

I will recommend Synexus to my friends.”

A fellow volunteer, known as Mrs PM, said: “I have been on a Synexus study for a year. My diabetes and high cholesterol needs special treatment.

“By taking part in the study I may improve my health and help others to get better health (in the future). The staff has treated me very well, and I feel very comfortable during my visits.”

Others have reflected on their experience of being part of a clinical trial, as one volunteer said: “I found the staff at Synexus to be friendly and helpful. The doctors and medical staff made me feel that they had time for me and were very attentive.

The service I received from Synexus means I would be happy to recommend their studies.”

Meanwhile another person who has been through the Synexus clinical trial process said: “I volunteered after hearing a radio advert about a Synexus hypertension study. Whilst taking part I found the staff and the service at the clinic to be really excellent.

“I had never taken part in a clinical study before, but my positive experience led me to volunteer for another study and

I’m still actively taking part today.”

One volunteer, who has worked in the caring profession for 50 years, said they had taken part in a ‘number of studies’ through the organisation.

“I’ve always found the staff at the clinic to be very helpful,” said the volunteer.

“Having transport to the clinic was a great bonus for me since a knee operation meant I found it difficult to walk very far or use public transport.

“I’d be interested in joining another study in the future and would not hesitate to recommend Synexus to my friends and family.”
