Foden says City full of confidence for derby crunch

PHIL Foden says City are heading into the derby with confidence after moving closer to qualifying from their Champions League group.

Foden scored the opening goal of a 4-1 home win over Club Brugge that was more difficult than the scoreline suggested, and an injury-time equaliser from RB Leipzig at home to Paris Saint-Germain puts Pep Guardiola’s side top of their group with two games to play needing one point to reach the knockout stages – and knowing that a home win over PSG next time out will confirm top spot.

Before then, the final game before the November international break sees City take the short trip to Old Trafford to take on a United side that nearly saw their manager sacked last month – but could leapfrog the Blues in the table with a win on Saturday lunchtime.

Foden has noted the recent results that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has picked up with the help of Cristiano Ronaldo, but also picked up on the boost in the City squad after ending their run of two games without a win or a goal.

“It’s about bouncing back from the two defeats that we’ve just had so I’m delighted with that as well. We needed to bounce back today from previous defeats so it is going to give us confidence going into the derby,” he said.

“We’re ready to play them whenever.

“It’s going to be a difficult game because we know how hard it is at their stadium with their fans but we’re feeling confident.

“They’ve got two good results recently so they’ll be full of confidence as well.

“It’s going to be a really challenging game and I’m looking forward to it.”
