Khan close to agreeing deal to fight rival Brook

- By JAMES FINDLATER

AMIR Khan has disputed Kell Brook’s claims that he has signed a contract for the pair to finally face each other in the ring.

A long-awaited bout appears to be getting close, though, with Brook saying he has signed a contract to take on the former world champion from Bolton in what he has described as ‘the biggest fight in British boxing’.

The pair had provisionally agreed to fight on December 4 before talks broke down, but are now set to go head-to-head at the Manchester Arena next year.

Speaking to IFL TV, Brook said: “I need a big massive fight to get my teeth into. And the fight we all want to see is the guy from Bolton. I’ve signed my part of the fight. He just needs to come forward and sign his part and we’ve got the biggest fight in British boxing.

“We’ve signed our bit, we’re doing what we’re doing. Listen, we don’t need to hide about it, everybody knows there are whispers. Everybody knows this fight needs to happen.

“I’ve not been in front of a camera. He’s been saying he wants it. I’ve done my thing, let’s see if he does his, and we’ve got the biggest fight in British boxing.”

Khan, though, has questioned how Brook has been able to sign a contract, with the 34-year-old insisting nothing has yet been agreed with him.

The former Olympic silver medallist is hopeful the fight will be confirmed this week, though, saying: “Contracts are still going back and forth, so I’m not sure how he’s signed when we’re both waiting? Hopefully something gets finalised this week.”

Khan remains keen to take on Brook, despite admitting the two of them are ‘probably past our best’, and he’s bullish about his chances against the Sheffield fighter. He added: “The only two fights out there for me in my opinion is Kell Brook or Manny Pacquiao.

“I am giving it the last, last chapter of my boxing career.”
