Vinny: I am not in same Kompany as City legends

- By JOE BRAY

VINCENT Kompany has named four former City team-mates in his dream five-a-side team, along with an international team-mate for Belgium.

The selection has so many quality players that he even left himself out of the side, and he decided against naming a goalkeeper in order to fit in Blues legends David Silva and Sergio Aguero.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE podcast, the former City captain was asked to name the best player he played with at City.

He answered: “I have to go four. Got to put David Silva. You talk about effort in training versus effort in matches, but David was always effortless in games. He just made you look average as a defender, when you’re closing down he commits you, go super aggressive and run him off the ball.

“But he never commits, waits for you to commit. If you step right he goes left, if you step left he goes right. So effortless. Tight spaces were big spaces for him.

“In my opinion also Yaya [Toure]. His potential. He could have played centre-back and been the best centre-back. He had everything. Left foot, right foot, he had a through ball that was delicate, could win duels, running at people from midfield which is rare, running past them, could finish.

“Then you’ve got Kevin de Bruyne and Kun Aguero.”

Those four players were predictably the main unit of his dream five-a-side team of players he had played against, and he declined to omit any of them when pushed to add a Belgian international as well.

So he left himself out and also didn’t include a goalkeeper in order to keep the four City greats in his side.

Picking his team, he said: “Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne, got to put Kun Aguero, got to put David Silva. Can I be coach?

“And Yaya, no keeper, I don’t need a keeper.”
