PSG can’t surprise us - Ilkay

- By SIMON BAJKOWSKI

ILKAY Gundogan is confident Mauricio Pochettino will not be able to surprise City and claim another victory against them tonight.

The PSG boss was responsible for one the most painful moments at the Etihad under Pep Guardiola as his Tottenham side claimed a dramatic victory in a 2019 Champions League quarter-final.

He was also the first manager to beat the Catalan in 2016 and won their most recent meeting in Paris this season.

He has improved his reputation further at Paris Saint-Germain, and M.E.N. Sport understands United are confident of securing him to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

As City prepare to go up against Pochettino at the Etihad tonight, the past victories the coach was able to secure over the Blues have not been forgotten in their squad.

However, midfielder Gundogan is confident with the form that they are in and does not think there is much room for surprise in modern football.

“I think the biggest challenge is that both managers know each other quite well,” said the Germany international.

“Unfortunately he was able to beat us in the past quite regularly and in important games.

“Obviously that isn’t really an advantage for us, but I think in the modern game all the teams started to know each other quite well.

“There are more possibilities to scout each other so I don’t think there are many elements left to surprise.

“That’s why for us it’s more the approach of the game, the way we want to play, how we keep possession and create chances and I have no doubts we are able to do that in the best possible way similar to how we did at the weekend.”
