Dad-of-seven collapsed and died after fishing trip

-

THE partner of a dad-ofseven who died after taking his son on a fishing trip has spoken of her heartbreak.

Andy Marshall was found collapsed on his bedroom floor in Offerton, Stockport, on November 2.

His children desperately tried to revive him as they waited for emergency services to arrive.

Paramedics fought to save his life but tragically he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The 56-year-old leaves behind seven heartbroken children.

Andy’s partner of 27 years, Anita Rhodes, held back tears as she described the moment she saw him lifeless on the floor.

“I thought he was joking,” she said. “I thought it was all a dream.”

Andy had been enjoying his favourite hobby of fishing at Etherow Country Park just hours before he died. His 25-year-old son Joshua had joined him for the trip.

During a phone call with Anita at 8am, Andy told her he had “bad heartburn”.

He returned home later that afternoon, shortly before Anita left to see a friend.

She had not long left the house when she received a frantic phone call.

“My friend said, ‘Come home quick’”, the 47-year-old continued.

“I asked why and she said Andy was on the floor.

“I couldn’t believe it. I got home as fast as I could.”

Andy was well-known for working at Johnstone’s Decorating Centre in Stockport. Tests found he died of coronary artery atheroma, where main arteries to the heart become clogged.

Anita continued: “It’s been terrible. I’ve been crying, crying, crying all the time.

“I can’t sleep and I’ve been on anxiety medication.

“I go into the bedroom every night and he’s not there.”

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help support Andy’s family through this difficult time. So far, it has raised £875.
