Road-rage driver tried to shunt me off m-way at 70mph
MOTORIST DELIBERATELY SMASHED INTO TERRIFIED COUPLE
A MANIAC van driver tried to force a couple off the road as they drove at 70mph on the M60 by deliberately crashing into them twice.
When the victim followed the van onto a slip road to get its registration number it stopped, then reversed at speed towards his vehicle.
Police are investigating the terrifying incident, which happened near the Trafford Centre.
Danny Eskdale was driving his Mazda with his partner in the front seat passenger seat when their ordeal began.
Greater Manchester Police say the van had no registered keeper and was uninsured.
Danny, 42, from Stockport, said: “It happened on October 9 between 1.40pm and 2pm on the M60. I was driving to the Trafford Centre with my partner, Amanda in the front passenger seat.
“Out of nowhere this VW Cadi appeared in my rear view mirror. I was doing 70mph in the fast lane. It nudged my rear bumper, and at first I thought ‘did he really just do that.’
“The driver was gesticulating and flashing his lights. I was in busy traffic and there was a car in front of us, so I had nowhere to go.
“The VW then pulled into the middle lane and rammed into the my rear off side. I think he was trying to run me off the road or make me spin. In my book it was attempted murder. I drive for a living as a courier, so I know what I am doing behind the wheel and corrected my steering to counter it. He came off at junction 6 at Sale and I followed. He then stopped dead on the slipway and started reversing towards me. I had to reverse too to avoid being hit.
“It is terrifying to think what could have happened. My partner has three children and if I had not managed to control the car they could well have been left without a mum.”
Danny was able to get a photograph of the van and passed the registration number to police. But he has made a formal complaint after officers appeared to be ‘slow to take action.’
In a statement GMP said: “An investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.”
