ANEW bar in the Northern Quarter has opened its doors with a cocktail menu inspired by classic video games, including Mario Kart and Pokemon. Pixel Bar pressed start on Saturday, offering two floors of numerous consoles, bespoke high-spec gaming PCs as well as free retro arcade games to the former site of TV21.

Founded by Craig Ryan, Edward Ta and Lee Davies, they first opened a venue in Leeds nearly two years ago in a basement on George Street, and due to its success have turned their attention to Manchester.

Upstairs, customers can find the newest PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo platforms in booths or as individual seats, which can be rented out by the hour.

These come equipped with a host of new games to enjoy as well as classics like

Mortal Kombat and Mario Kart.

The ground floor is home to custom-built gaming PCs, in partnership with bespoke computer company PC Specialist who have installed the high specification kit for experienced gamers to enjoy.

As well as playing individually, every month the bar hosts LAN tournaments where PC gamers can come together to play in groups and compete against each other, with prize money of potentially up to £1,000 up for grabs.

There is an additional club room, with local DJs slated to play sets every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, playing noughties classics until the early hours.

Cocktails on the menu start from £7, and have appropriately game-themed names, including ‘Yoshi’s Island Iced Tea,’ ‘Jigglypuff’ and ‘Witcher’s Brew.’

Their signature creation is ‘Who’s that Pokemon?’ - a combination of vodka, lemon juice, soda and your choice of flavoured syrup.

A food menu is still in the works in collaboration with Basic Kneads, the Bolton based team behind the huge 16” pizzas at 7 Sins topped with doner meat, hot dogs, baked beans, chicken nuggets, mushy peas and so much more.

Pixel Bar is at 10 Thomas Street, M4 1DH. For more information visit their website.
