Residents in shock as neighbour dies outside her house

- By LYELL TWEED

RESIDENTS on a close-knit street have been left in shock after a neighbour ‘liked by all’ died outside her home.

A section of Maywood Avenue in East Didsbury was cordoned off around 8.30am yesterday after officers were called to a ‘body being found.’

A large police presence and a forensics tent were put up at the scene with officers confirming that a woman in her 70s had been pronounced dead.

Neighbours on the small street were left shaken by the incident.

One resident who lives opposite, said: “I woke up and saw a huge police presence outside, everyone is in shock here after finding out what’s happened.”

Another who lived opposite the house where the woman was found added: “We had no idea what was going on, there were just loads of police around and at the house. “Everybody is very shocked. “She was well-liked by everyone.” Another neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, paid tribute to the woman he described as a ‘second mother’ to him.

“She will be sorely missed by everyone on this estate, she knew everyone and their kids by first name,” he said.

“We had only just been talking about how we were going to decorate her front room for Christmas, I’m just absolutely devastated. She was a second mum to me, I’ve been here 20 years but she was here for at least 40.

“Even the police said how surprised they were at how close we all were on this street, it’s such a massive loss for everyone here.”

A GMP spokesman said: “Police were called around 8.30am today (November 29) to Maywood Avenue, Manchester to a report of a body being found.

Emergency services attended and a woman, believed to be in her 70s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”

There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, police added.
