CITY got their hands on a sixth Premier League title and earned themselves the top ranked Premier League prize money, while United slumped into the Europa League pool after a disappointing campaign.

The Premier League’s prize money is a portion of the revenue earned by England’s top flight from its various television deals, and distributed to clubs based on their league position, with each higher position bringing in just under £3 million more than the one below.

The final day of the season certainly lived up to its hype at the top and bottom of the table. Starting with relegation, Jack Harrison’s 94th-minute winner away at Brentford secured Leeds’ place in England’s top flight next season, with Burnley relegated after a 2-1 home defeat to Newcastle United.

At the top, City actually never moved from first place, but their title was looking in real jeopardy with 15 minutes to play. With the triumph comes the annual Premier League prize money, and it makes for good reading if you’re a Blues fan.

City - as the Premier League champions have earned £44 million for their efforts, just over £2 million more than their title challengers Liverpool, who received £41.8 million. Of course, for these top clubs, prize money is not the most important thing, but considering City recently acquired Erling Haaland for £51 million, the Etihad hierarchy will be delighted to already recoup a lot of that fee. In United’s case, Erik ten Hag’s reign at Old Trafford will begin in the Europa League despite defeat on the final day of the season to Crystal Palace. West Ham’s 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion means United cling on to 6th place and earn £33 million in prize money for the season.
