‘Plan your journey’ alert as roads close for Manchester Day

MANCHESTER Day makes its longawaite­d return after three years tomrrow – and people are being urged to plan ahead as a number of road closures are set to be in place.

A number of roads are to be closed tomorrow in the city centre for the parade with access to other streets limited.

St Mary’s Gate (Deansgate to Cross Street), Cross Street (St Mary’s Gate to Princess Street), and John Dalton Street (Princess Street to Deansgate) will be closed for the entire day. Liverpool Road (Potato Wharf to Deansgate) will be closed from 7am to 7pm, Deansgate (Whitworth Street West to Victoria Street) will be closed from 11am to 4pm, and Quay Street/Peter Street (Byrom Street to Watson Street) will be closed from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

Parking suspension­s will also be in place on these roads a number of surroundin­g ones. Traffic diversions will be in place with signage across the city.

Manchester council with Transport for Greater Manchester are encouragin­g those who are wanting to attend the event to plan ahead and avoid driving into the city centre. Public transport use is recommende­d with family passes on the trams available.

Day, said: “With Manchester Day just around the corner, we want to make sure everyone in and around the city knows what roads are closed on the day to avoid disappoint­ment. I’d advise people to plan their journey in advance and use public transport if they’re planning on coming into the city centre to join in the Manchester Day fun.”

Access to some roads will also only be available via certain routes.

Access to the following roads available via Mount Street between 11am and 4pm: Lloyd Street; Bootle Street; Jackson’s Row.

Access to and from the following roads will be limited between 11am and 4pm: St Ann’s Street; Queen Street; South King Street; Bow Street; Ridgefield; St James Place. Access to the following roads is available, but not via Deansgate: Tonman Street; Camp Street; Byrom Street; Longman Street; St John Street; Artillery Street; Quay Street; Hardman Street; Bridge Street; Southgate; Great Bridgewate­r Street. Access to the following roads is available, but not via Liverpool Road: Southern Street; Bridgewate­r Street; Stone Street; Duke Street; Rice Street; Lower Byrom Street.
