A glass of beer a day boosts healthy bacteria in the gut that fend off diseases and infections, a study by NOVA University in Lisbon suggests. The benefits come from polyphenols, plant compounds found in barley and yeast that reduce the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart problems, cancer and dementia.
SQUID GAME 2
Netflix has given the green light to a second season for the ultraviolent Korean smash hit. No date yet on when it will arrive. Netflix has also confirmed plans for a Squid Game-based reality show, called Squid Game: The Challenge which will offer a $4.56m (£3.8m) prize.

The Prime Minister’s ethics adviser quit this week. The peer, who had clashed with Boris Johnson over partygate, released a terse, 21-word statement simply saying it was “right” for him
to quit.
SECOND HOMES
Whitby has voted in favour of banning new properties being bought as second homes or holiday lets. Around 93% of those who took part in the referendum said they want all new build and additional housing restricted to being full-time main residences on a permanent basis.

The South Korean boyband broke hearts across the globe on Tuesday, as they announced their plans to go on a ‘temporary’ hiatus’ to pursue individual projects. The BTS boys assured fans the break is not a split and they plan to reunite again and ‘return someday’.
TRAIN TRAVEL
Travel bosses have told passengers not to go by train next week as the biggest rail strike in 30 years takes place. With a mass walkout by rail staff planned on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, customers are warned to “only travel if absolutely essential”.
