Cravalho) is the daughter of Chief

Tui (Temuera Morrison) and has been groomed since birth to lead her people on the island of Motunui. However, Moana’s wise grandmothe­r Tala (Rachel House) fills the girl’s head with wild stories about the demi-god Maui, who stole the heart of the island goddess Te Fiti and lost this precious green stone during a battle with ferocious lava demon Te Ka. The old woman encourages Moana to seek out Maui (Dwayne Johnson) and restore Te Fiti’s missing heart and bring prosperity to the island in this joyful rites-of-passage adventure from Disney.

2 THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES Tomorrow, BBC2, 11.15pm

Motorcycli­st Luke (Ryan Gosling) is part of a stunt show in a circus, until he learns he has fathered a son by Romina (Eva Mendes, left). To provide for his family Luke starts robbing banks, but is caught by cop Avery (Bradley Cooper). Years later, the men’s offspring (Emory Cohen and Dane DeHaan) are flung together with violent consequenc­es.

3 HELLBOY Tuesday, ITV4, 9pm

Demon Hellboy (Ron Perlman, left), raised by the Nazis in the final days of the Second World War but weaned from the dark side by a paranormal expert, joins a team fighting present-day fascist sorcery. The hero juggles the demands of his role with his attempts to woo fragile friend Liz (Selma Blair) in this comic book adaptation.

4 ROBOCOP Wednesday, Channel 5, 11.20pm

In 2028, laws prevent mechanised soldiers from patrolling America’s streets. Raymond Sellars (Michael Keaton), CEO of OmniCorp, tries to sway political opinion and when incorrupti­ble cop Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) is critically injured, he’s rebuilt with OmniCorp technology and reborn as the eponymous saviour, left, in this glossy remake.

5 THE AFRICAN QUEEN Thursday, BBC4, 9pm

Charlie Allnut (Humphrey Bogart), captains the riverboat African Queen. While working in East Africa in 1914, German troops attack a mission, resulting in the death of Rev Samuel Sayer (Robert Morley). Sayer’s sister Rose (Katharine Hepburn, left with Bogart) charters Charlie to spirit her away and sparks of attraction fly.

6 WHEN HARRY MET SALLY Friday, BBC1, 10.40pm

Classic rom-com. Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan, left) meet as recent college graduates who share the drive from Chicago to New York – and fail to hit it off. After more brief encounters, they become friends in their 30s when they’re both recently out of relationsh­ips. Will they take a chance on being more than just mates?

7 BAD BOYS FOR LIFE Saturday, Channel 4, 9pm

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence (left) reprise their roles as Miami detectives and best buddies Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. As the pair face the possibilit­y of retirement, Burnett takes charge of a team of fresh-faced recruits. The two men turn back the clock as “bad boys” when a gun-toting assassin (Jacob Scipio) targets Lowrey.
