Kun: City won’t sell Silva

- By ALEX BROTHERTON

SERGIO Aguero said he would be surprised if City sell Bernardo Silva to Barcelona this summer.

One report this week claimed the clubs had agreed a deal worth around £46m for the Portugal ace, but that was denied by the Blues who insisted they have received no offers for the player.

Bernardo’s contribution to City’s recent success cannot be understated, with Pep Guardiola’s side winning four Premier League titles since he joined from Monaco five years ago.

Few know his game better than Aguero, City’s all-time leading goalscorer, who spent four seasons playing alongside the diminutive midfielder. Aguero himself joined Barcelona for a brief spell after leaving City in 2021 before a heart condition forced him to call time on his career, but he would be surprised if the Blues allowed Bernardo to make a similar move. “Bernardo is a great player. He carries the ball, he sacrifices, has quality to assist and score goals and he can play in different positions,” Aguero said. “It would surprise me if City let him go.

“He is a player who contributes a lot every season, but everything is possible,” he said.

“If he finally arrives at Barca, then he will be someone who can be key to the possession game that Xavi likes.”

Although Bernardo did ask to leave City in the summers of 2020 and 2021 due to personal reasons, he is now understood to be much happier with life in Manchester.

However, in a recent interview with ESPN, he didn’t rule out leaving and admitted he doesn’t know what the future holds for him.

“I’ve always said I’m happy here, but I have no idea what’s going to happen,” the 28-year-old said.
