No PSGlee as Ten Hag says Rashford is staying put
ERIK ten Hag will reiterate to Marcus Rashford he ‘loves him’ after it emerged the player’s brother and agent held discussions with Paris SaintGermain.
The forwards’ sibling, Dwaine Maynard, last week rendezvoused with officials from PSG, who are long-time admirers of the United forward.
Sources have questioned the timing of the meeting as there are less than three weeks until the transfer window closes and Rashford, 24, has indicated his preference to stay at United.
The suspicion from some is that Maynard arranged the meeting as a negotiation tactic to put pressure on United to offer the England international a new contract.
Rashford has entered the last year of his deal but the Reds have the option of an additional year to retain him until 2024.
When asked if he had spoken to Rashford about the PSG development, Ten Hag replied: “Not yet, but he knows I love him, he knows I want him to be here so I will tell him that again!
“I know (players) are experienced, they know how to deal with things.
“We have to keep focused on what is most important. The priority is the next game.”
Rashford squandered two presentable chances in the 2-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford last week, having scored three goals in five games during pre-season.
He tallied five goals last season - only one as a starter - but Ten Hag was encouraged by Rashford’s positioning in the penalty area.
“He showed already in the short time I’ve been here, in pre-season, what he can do,” said the Reds boss.
“Also last week, he was twice in a position where he could score.
“The team also with his contribution, he was in the right moment in the right place and I know and I trust he will finish in the future. We are talking about one game (that he didn’t score in). In pre-season, he did score.
“He’s in our plans and he will stay at Manchester United.”
