Head for Humber

‘Cadwell Park is only a few miles from here and the A153 is a fun road’

If you happen to be passing Peterborough on the A1 to Hull or North Yorkshire, and you fancy an alternative route rather the dreary 60mph slog up the A1/M18 or A15, then this is the route for you. Getting to Boston from the A1 means skirting Peterborough and following the arrow-straight A15 past Spalding. North of Boston is where the fun starts. Pick up the B1183 flashing across the flat miles (humpback bridge apart) through New Bolingbroke towards Revesby (Transporter fans, note the VW garage). Over the staggered crossroads towards Horncastle, linking curves together as you climb into the Lincolnshire Wolds, taking in sharp bends and multiple complex corners. At Horncastle, pop into the School House Coffee Bar for cake and a brew, then head west onto the A158 for a couple of miles, signposted Lincoln – although Cadwell Park is only a few miles from here and the A153 north from Horncastle is a fun road (policed with mobile speed cameras on race weekends, so watch out) – there’s usually something going down at the circuit, and track days are free for spectators so it’s worth popping in. Back on the A158 out of Horncastle, then peel off onto the B1225 heading towards Caistor for 20 miles of hectic bends and fast, flowing romps across the rolling rooftops of the Wolds. Then it’s onto Thoresway, straight on, peel right at the fork onto a back road that takes you through dense woods down to Humber Airport and finally pick up the A18 for the Humber Bridge.
