Mondial are making a bold comeback bid with this stunning V5 road-going superbike.

The illustration shows what the finished 200bhp weapon will look like. The bike will have a carbon fibre chassis and a valve train made of titanium, so it should be able to rev to over 13,000rpm for long periods of time. At full chat, it will suck enough air into its cylinders to drain a bathtub in half-a-second. New one-piece leathers The company plan to unveil the are just £399.99 machine at the Milan Motorcycle Show in November 2019.

Dream big

“Only one other manufacturer has produced a V5,” says Antonio Matarollo, Director of Mondial Moto. “It dominated MotoGP for five years but it never went into production. We will be the first people to put a V5 on the road.” It’s not hard to see why Mondial have been inspired by Honda’s efforts. When Honda developed their V5, it claimed three World Championships and won over half the races it entered. Despite rumours or a road version, Honda never delivered, but this hasn’t deterred Mondial. “We’ve been working on this project for 10 years,” added Matarollo, an engineer himself with a background at Ferrari and Mercedes. “We’ve secured a large loan from the Italian government that has helped us develop the engine and we’re now working on the prototype chassis. “There will be two bikes: an R and an S. The engine in the R will have larger valves and a hotter cam, which will push the power up, although we don’t know by how much yet. Both bikes will have a full-titanium exhaust system made by Termignoni. We’re making everything ourselves, including the electronics.”

Steady progress

The specification of the bikes aren’t finalised either but both will feature Öhlins suspension, Brembo brakes, lightweight wheels and TFT dash, with the R model gaining electronic suspension, keyless ignition and carbon wheels. The bike is expected to weigh 179kg and be priced at about £25,000 for the S, and £32,000 for the R. Right now Mondial are working hard on producing a prototype chassis, with the goal of having one to test by spring next year.
