Guy Martin to race again at Donington endurance event

TT hero headlines star-studded classic race

- By Jordan Gibbons SENIOR REPORTER

Guy Martin will be racing this weekend in the Endurance Legends at Donington Park (May 12-13). The racer and TV star will be riding the Team York Suzuki XR69 replica alongside flat track ace Peter Boast.

The pair previously campaigned a Katana together for Team Classic Suzuki at Spa last year.

And the XR69 they will be riding has geniune race pedigree, having taken a podium at the Classic TT in 2014 ridden by Russ Mountford and scored fourth and fifth with David Johnson and Gary Johnson. Unsurprisingly, the XR69 replica isn’t exactly standard. “We’ve done a lot of work to the bike including fitting a GSX-R1100 Slabby engine with Yoshi carbs, so it now puts out 150bhp at the back wheel and 92ftlb of torque with a 10,500rpm redline,” said Kevin Pearson, Manager of Team York Suzuki. “Boastie has been tyre testing with Avon at Donington and reporting back to Guy.”

As well as Martin and Boast there will be a host of other famous faces around the Endurance Legends paddock including MCN’s Chief Road Tester Michael Neeves, who will be racing a Katana for Team Classic Suzuki with former British Superbike star John Reynolds and GP racer turned commentator Steve Parrish.

Multiple World Endurance Champion Terry Rymer and threetime British Superbike legend Niall Mackenzie will be there too, taking part in parade laps.

As well as all of the endurance action, the paddock will play host to more than 1000 classic racing machines presented by clubs and private owners.

As 2018 marks the anniversary of many landmark bikes, such as 50 years of the Norton Commando and 30 years since the birth of the Honda RC30, there will be displays from owners clubs too.

If classic bikes aren’t your thing, there’s still something for you. The Endurance Legends Live Arena will offer the chance to try out the latest retro bikes from BMW, Triumph and Ducati on the Melbourne Loop for free.

Tickets start from £18 on the gate and more information can found at www.endurancelegends.co.uk
