‘THERE’S A BIT OF MAGIC OTHER DEALERS LACK’

The hunt for the best café continues as we go Krazy in Suffolk

To get the lowdown on this week’s Golden Sausage contender we took a spin across the Fens to Suffolk and dropped in on the folks who frequent one of Britain’s most unique destinations, Krazy Horse in Bury St Edmunds. As dealers go, there’s nothing quite like it; beyond the showroom’s unassuming doors is an incredible display of outrageous custom machinery that would put many a concours d’elegance to shame. It’s impossible not to dwell over these amazing bikes, but those in the know make a beeline for the café first. Scott Bayliss and his crew, collectively known as the Mild Hogs, are first through the door on most Sunday mornings. “The cafe gets really busy very quickly, so we get in early to grab a table,” says Scott. “I’d give it a 9/10 across the board; the food is excellent and the staff are friendly. The only downside is a lack of space which means you can end up in a queue.”

With the Breakfast Special at £8.50, prices are a bit higher than your average greasy spoon, but at Krazy Horse it’s quality that counts. “There’s no budget bacon or second-rate sausages,” points out regular Steve Swann as we tuck in. “You’re getting a bespoke breakfast.” “There’s a bit of magic that faceless dealerships just don’t have,” says Pete Knight, who loves the laid-back Krazy Horse vibe. “Even people who don’t ride come in for the food and to have a look around.” Krazy Horse’s Stuart Eckersley explained: “We’re a toy shop for a lifestyle and part of that lifestyle is having somewhere to go. So as well as the café we put on a band and a BBQ once a month.”
