McGUINNESS OUT OF THE TT
O ‘I genuinely thought we’d be there’ IOM legend targets Classic TT comeback
I’m excited for the TT. I might not be racing but my new leathers and helmet are on their way, I love it when they arrive, it will be just like a race meeting, but without me actually racing!
I’ve got a few little jobs lined up for while I’m on the island. I’m doing a bit of work with Dunlop and quite a bit with Norton, and I’ll also be doing some stuff for the Isle of Man Government. I don’t mind all of that, but I still want to go and enjoy myself. I’ll take the time to go to Peel and have an ice cream with my family
‘IT STILL BLOWS ME AWAY WHEN I GO AND WATCH. IT’S UNIQUE’
and friends, I’ve always done that and always will do, it’s just this time I’ll be a bit more chilled! Normally my fuse at the TT is about 5mm long, but when I’m not racing I’ve got the longest fuse in the world. I don’t have to be short with anybody, I can just go and enjoy it this year. I absolutely love watching at the TT. I enjoyed it last year, watching for the little things and listening to the different bikes and how they sounded on the circuit. I even remember checking out the Norton.
It still blows me away when
I go and watch, and even after all these years it gives me that ‘f**k, that’s unreal’ feeling as I hear a motorbike coming in the distance absolutely flat-out. It’s unique. You can sit there with a radio and some butties and be happy as Larry. It doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world. I’ve got a job to do with Norton, so I’ll be busy and being pulled from pillar to post but I absolutely love it so there’s no complaints from me. Although I won’t like not riding. I have considered getting a torpedo and taking down the Ben ny Chree in the middle of the night to get the TT postponed a few weeks. I might be OK to ride by then!
