Fallout over Moto3 confusion
MotoGP race control has once again come under fire for a controversial decision following the weekend’s action, after taking away a debut victory from Fabio Di Giannantonio in a call that left many questioning the actions of the stewards. Clamping down on infringements of track limits around the Bugatti circuit’s many chicanes, they penalised a number of riders in Sunday’s race for taking shortcuts. But, with contact between himself and Jakub Kornfeil contributing to Di Giannantonio’s off-track excursion, he was left understandably devastated by the judgement.
“I can honestly tell myself that I won
‘I got back on track in the same position so I didn’t gain anything’
this race. The incident with Kornfeil was a strange one, because we got into the chicane at the same time and he touched me whilst trying to get past, a manoeuvre that forced me to cut the corner. Moreover, I got back on track in the same position I was before, so I can’t even say I had any gain from it.” It was a disastrous weekend all round for the Gresini Honda team, with team-mate Jorge Martin taken out in the final corner of the race while battling for the lead.
Crashing for the second time in a row through no fault of his own, a fall for title rival Marco Bezzecchi left him with nowhere to go but down. Bezzecchi retains the Moto3 title lead, but is now only four points ahead of Di Giannantonio.
