Diamond-encrusted Harley could be yours, for £1.4m
Swiss watchmakers Bucherer have made a diamond-encrusted Harley worth over £1.4 million
This diamond-encrusted showpiece has been made by a Swiss watch firm and will set you back £1.4 million. Bündnerbike have made the Blue Edition which has more bling than an American rapper’s entire entourage.
Sliver-plated metalwork
You might not be able to tell by looking at it but the Blue Edition started life as a Harley-Davidson Softail Slim S. In fact it took a team of eight over a year to design and build the bike. That’s because every single metal part has been produced, welded, beaten, ground and polished by hand. Even the rims are custom-made but before we get to the bodywork, let’s talk about the engine because that’s rather special too.
The blue coating starts with the engine. The whole thing has been silver-plated, before six colour coatings were added. The cam cover has been replaced with a see-through window, so that the rotating camshaft is visible, as are the gold-plated throttle valves. LEDs in the camshaft housing mean the engine is illuminated when it runs.
Put a ring on it
As you might imagine with a watch-maker and jewellers, the Blue Edition is adorned with mind-blowing pieces. Two Bucherer rings have been adapted to fit the hand grips while a further pair of diamond rings can be found on the forks and a large version of the ring is located in the left of the tank. The madness doesn’t stop there.
Underneath a dome made from armoured glass lives another piece of jaw-dropping jewellery: a six-prong solitaire ring with a 5.40-carat diamond. A custommade watch, which is adorned with parts from a bike engine, is located in a second safe in the right half of the tank. To ensure that the vibrations of the engine do not damage the mechanical movement, the watch is housed in a cage made from silicon rings. “It was a long road,” says Samir Merdanovic, Head of Movements at Bucherer. “The holder, for example, also serves as a watch winder. The watch is therefore wound regularly and continues to run, even if the motorcycle is not ridden for an extended period.” It even comes with a custommade Bucherer watch, just for the owner, all for just 1.888m Swiss Francs. Best start looking down the back of the sofa then.
