Our man says it’s time to bring the autobahn system to Britain
Speed limits make me laugh. We’re supposed to be limited to 70mph on the motorway but you can easily buy a motorcycle that’ll do 160mph or more and people are surprised when not everyone obeys the limit. Seriously, 70mph can feel slower than walking pace on some machines.
I think we should have an autobahn system like they do in Germany. They’ve got it right out there. They’ve all grown up with it and know exactly how to behave. If you’re in the fast lane

and slowing people up you get a flash and you get out of the way. People are polite about it, but they don’t mess about. There might be a bigger shunt in the end but it seems to work most of the time for them.
So why don’t we have the same here? Maybe Great Britain is too overcrowded, it gets so busy on the roads. We need to educate drivers and riders better, too, so people know how to behave and control a vehicle at speed. Every time you buy a superbike I think you should get a free track day with tuition to teach you just what your bike is capable of because 99% of the time the bike is far better than the rider. Most crashes aren’t the motorcycle’s fault, it’s down to the rider. People should learn how to behave during the TT too. If they keep riding like idiots on the Isle of Man, the cops will stick a speed limit on the mountain and it’ll kill it. People won’t come if they can’t go over the mountain without a speed limit. They love going fast. I can’t blame them, but there does need to be some common sense. It’s time for riders to be a bit more sensible and then we can push for the autobahn idea. You can do 70 in first on most big bikes now!
