SHOWDOWN HOPEFULS

-

The ninth round of the Bennetts BSB championship marks the end of the ‘main season’, with the three-round title fighters’ Showdown kicking off at Oulton Park next weekend.

GLENN IRWIN 3RD - 187 PTS

“Mathematically we aren’t confirmed as being in the Showdown, but it’d take a monumental failure really not to get in. I’m not even thinking about it, in my own head I’m there. If we can get back to good fortune again I’ll be happy as we’ve had it rough lately.”

PETER HICKMAN 6TH - 126 PTS

“We’ve got a small advantage in sixth position and I was looking forward to going to the Silverstone track as it’s a circuit I’ve been strong at in the past. Now we’re using the National Circuit it takes us into the unknown a little bit, but we’ve got three races yet to go so we’ll give it a good go.” At present, only Leon Haslam and Jake Dixon have confirmed their spots in the Showdown leaving the remaining four places up for grabs. Those are currently held by Glenn Irwin,

JOSH BROOKES 4TH - 174 PTS

“For me, not being in the Showdown isn’t an option so I don’t really think about it. We should be in the top six and if we are not then something has gone wrong. I love riding at Silverstone, it’s the best circuit we go to on the BSB calendar so I’m disappointed we can’t use the full track.”

DANNY BUCHAN 7TH - 119 PTS

“I’ve given myself work to do after throwing it at Cadwell, but I’m only seven points behind sixth place, so over three races it’s more than doable. The National Circuit might help as I struggle with my size a little on the long straights. That makes life easier but the racing will be much closer together.” Josh Brookes, Bradley Ray and Peter Hickman, but Danny Buchan and Christian Iddon are knocking on the door of the top six with Honda’s Jason O’Halloran also in with a shout.

BRADLEY RAY 5TH - 159 PTS

“I’d like to get enough points in race one to secure myself in the Showdown early and then focus on podium points for the rest of the weekend. The key is not doing anything stupid, if we can play it safe in race one to take the points and then go all out for podium credits on Sunday (two races) I’ll be happy.”

CHRISTIAN IDDON 8TH - 111 PTS

“I go to Silverstone round with nothing to lose. I haven’t actually looked at the points situation because I know who I am racing against and I have been aware of that since the Cadwell Park round. I know it is possible and I am not that far away, and if I just race the best that I can that is all I can do really.”
